How an Idea Became a Reality: Bangladesh National Youth Conference on Family Planning
The Bangladesh National Youth Conference on Family Planning (BNYCFP) has become a cornerstone event for youth-led advocacy in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in Bangladesh. Initiated in 2016 by SERAC-Bangladesh, under the leadership of Executive Director SM Shaikat, the conference was born from a vision sparked at the 2015 International Conference on Family Planning in Bali.
Despite early challenges, BNYCFP has grown into the nation’s largest youth-focused SRHR event, thanks to the support of partners like UNFPA and active engagement from government agencies. What sets BNYCFP apart is its youth-driven approach—each year, 30 young volunteers plan and organize the entire event, ensuring it reflects the diverse needs and perspectives of Bangladesh’s youth.
More than just a conference, BNYCFP is a powerful advocacy platform that influences national policies and connects local discussions to global conversations. The event’s success is built on strong communication, consistent vision, and strategic advocacy, making it a must-attend for young leaders, health experts, and policymakers alike.
As BNYCFP continues to evolve, it remains dedicated to amplifying youth voices in shaping the future of family planning and SRHR in Bangladesh. For more on how this idea became a reality, check out the detailed story here.
